Method
How this tool works
Electricity = useful heat demand ÷ SCOP. Alternative fuel input = useful heat ÷ system efficiency.
Worked example
A home needing 12,000 kWh of heat with SCOP 3 uses about 4,000 kWh of electricity.
Compare annual heating costs
Estimate heat-pump electricity use and compare running cost with gas, oil or another fuel.
Method
Electricity = useful heat demand ÷ SCOP. Alternative fuel input = useful heat ÷ system efficiency.
A home needing 12,000 kWh of heat with SCOP 3 uses about 4,000 kWh of electricity.
Use responsibly
SCOP is a seasonal estimate; actual performance depends on climate, flow temperature, controls and installation quality. Not a quotation.
